Christmas Ornaments

I love painting Christmas Ornaments.  Not that I have a ton of time.  Between work, and taking care of mom, housework and computer play, I find that getting really down to painting is sometimes down right difficult.  But I do love painting Christmas Ornaments!

This Candy Cane Oval Ornament was the very first item I went off on my own and painted back 4 years ago.  It was fun to do and not too hard for a newbie.  Of course this is not THE one I did back then.  I keep that one for myself as a gage of my painting journey.  I've painted several of these since then and I still think they are awesome!

While I think the Candy Cane is pretty and traditional, This Snowman Mitten Ornament designed by Jamie Mills-Price is just so darned cute!!  I love Jamies designs! So Whimiscal - so cute!  Although I still find the eyes challenging.  Does anyone else have trouble perfecting them???   I have a bear of Jamies that I'm working on now that is turning out really nice.  I'll try to get a picture of it up tomorrow and then again when it is complete.

I'm also painting a number of ornaments for Christmas party favors for my Painting Chapter, The Village Painters, Plymouth, Michigan.  They are all Jamie Mills-Price designs.  Should be great looking tables this year. The centerpieces are also Jamies designs.  There is such detail, but totally worth it in my opinion!

Well off to hopefully get some painting done tonight!

Painting Hydrangeas

How many of you like painting hydrangeas? I've only done a few pieces centered around this beautiful flower, and each teacher has their own technique and special twist. Although they are all just a little different, somehow they all end up looking absolutely GREAT! And I think they are great fun to paint! Although I didn't paint this piece, this Hydrangea Tray and Tea Server Set is one of the prettiest I've seen.

Please let me know YOUR tips and that make your hydrangeas special!!

Judy Ribitch

Is anyone familiar with Judy Ribitch Designs? I love her patterns. They are soft, colorful and interesting. She has a great variety of subjects, butterflies, floral, fall, christmas - so many to choose from. She has taught classes at HOOT and at the Valley Tole Mini Retreat in Lansing Michigan and she is a GREAT teacher! Unfortunately she does not have a website but here is one of her patterns.

If you are a fan of Halloween Where's Witchie is a great pattern by Judy!

She also has some really cute Christmas designs.  This Gingerbread Tin and its sister tin are a sample of Judy's designs that I adapted to these little tins I originally painted to be used as gift card holders.  Another cute design painted by me is this cute Santa Face lid on a nice white ceramic bowl.

Take a look and browse, I'm sure you will love Judy Ribitch as much as I do!!

So much to do - so little time

So let's use this post to see if this works!!!

Slow Start

OK so I've got off to a slow start! LOL  I've been painting alot.  I've done two pieces with Mark Polomchak.  They are the first watercolors I've done.  It was a different experience, but I still seem to have the same hang-ups!   Not enough paint on my brush.  But Mark is an awesome teacher!  He is full of tips, patient, very funny and a talented piano teacher.  What other painting teacher do you know that plays piano for you while you are painting???   And best of all - both my pictures are already matted, framed and on the wall in my home.   It was a great seminar and I would take more classes from him in a heartbeat. Take a look at his site! Mark Polomchak

I've also nearly finished a Mary Owens piece.  It is one of her new designs, Pumpkins, apples and grapes.  I need to darken a few of the shadows and add a couple tints.  I'll post a picture when I'm done.

I've also placed a couple of my painted items on eBay - I'd love it if you would stop by!  Here is the link to one of the ornaments designed by Bobbie Campbell I painted:

Going to sign off now, have a couple projects I can work on - Almost finished!!!
